Last school year I worked at the United Nations as a kind of little shadow for a very active, inspirational pro-life mover-and-shaker up at the NYC conferences. She took me under her loving wing and coached me (a total, pitiful novice to UN policy and all that) with astonishing patience and kindness, and made my life pretty much complete when she later called me her “lioness who roared”. Looking back on that experience, I feel so incredibly blessed, and thank God over and over for that saintly woman and the lessons she taught me. I got to sit in on conferences, lobby and talk with the delegates, and basically just assimilate this electric, thoroughly diverse, international atmosphere. I had such a wonderful time with the girls from Latin America I was with (I could barely communicate with them, but they were amazing), developed a friendship and later a side-splittingly funny correspondence with a “dapper” (to use one of his fun British words) London intern and fellow Starbucks-worshipper, as well as a devout American intern, who would always keep things light by flicking me in the ear right there in the midst of conferences as he passed behind me. Every morning the small band of life-lovers at the U.N. would meet in our little corner to discuss strategy. The overwhelming odds we faced in the UN’s teeming sea of women’s “rights” activists hit me harder than a slap on the back from my old tennis instructor. The thing I took away with me from my time at the U.N. was the sense of urgency we, as advocates and protectors of the unborn, the family, and women’s TRUE rights, need to assume. The thing is, the women’s rights movement doesn’t let the public in on what it’s promoting up at the UN. They keep it a secret and use elusive, vague wording, because they feel that we women of the world have been so brainwashed, or “socially conditioned” to oppose the new wave of women’s rights (and favor of what they foolishly consider “masculine oppression” like some kind of Stepford Wife-robot), that we would reject the agenda if we knew what it truly was. They are stripping women of their authentic voice and opinion, reasoning that we will eventually thank them for it later. Aww, how thoughtful of them. I’m cutting and pasting an article I wrote for my friend’s University paper about the hidden agendas in full swing at the UN. I’d wanted to take time in the future to expand on the individual issues, but for now just look at my essay as a preview of ‘coming attractions’ on Peace Be Still. It’s pretty long, so anyone who gets through it is automatically awarded the oh-so-very-much-coveted “Peace Be Still Metal of Honor and Impressive Stamina”. It’s also a bit more serious than I usually like to write, but hey, if the shark stops swimming it dies, right? Hmm, that didn’t really make any sense.
………………
On 42nd and 1st Avenue, New York City, there is located what appears to be a thriving bastion of concern for humanity. This utopian establishment is known to the world as the United Nations. Upon my initial entry of the building I was taken in by the innocence of the powder blue flag, the excitement of the indistinct hum of countless languages being uttered at once, and the catchy, inspirational slogan “Translating War into Peace”, which was stamped across the pins and t-shirts of the gift shops. As I walked the halls gazing at the poignant photographs of humans of all ethnicities, and looked into their imploring eyes, I felt that the only thing missing from this picturesque setting would be a flock of white doves hovering about the rafters.
And yet, behind the fluffy diplomatic language, smiling photo IDs of the delegates, and cheery UN slogans, there lurks a truly evil, hair raising agenda. Within the bullet proof windows of the United Nations, there is a full scale war being waged; the quintessential conflict between good and evil. The United Nations is held tightly in the lethal clutches of radical feminists and their followers, whose desire to completely eliminate the distinction between the male and female sexes, and to gain total, unbridled control of all reproduction. The brawls are held, not in honest, straightforward confrontation, but rather through the almost imperceptible methods of changing words in documents; words that look genuine and benign at a glance, but can be manipulated to encompass their vile agenda. This war of the feminists is not a fight of courageous, valiant combat, but rather the underhanded work of sharpshooters hidden from view.
These women (and men) assure us they promote the advancement of women, but it is their idea of advancement that is alarmingly distorted and out of sync with the original intention of the women’s rights movement. They have fallen so far from knowing what it means to truly be a dignified woman, and what it is that really counts as a victory for women’s rights. The male and female sexes both equally deserve dignity and respect, but the feminist agenda fails to see that there are natural, beautiful, and complementary differences between the two sexes. Instead they call viciously for the abolishment of these differences, stating that these dissimilarities are simply fabrications. Pounding the theory that men and women are totally alike, they even claim that we are actually all created to be bisexual. The only reason heterosexuality is considered the norm, is because of socially constructed stereotypes which have squeezed men and women into those restricting roles. The radical feminists even go so far as to state that instead of 2 sexes, there are actually 5 genders: heterosexual males, heterosexual females, hermaphrodites, homosexual men, and lesbians.
Unfortunately, the feminist agenda doesn’t stop at merely dissolving gender differences. They have a rather lengthy list of aspirations they believe would further liberate women, which they mask behind the term “Sexual and Reproductive Rights”. These rights include abortion on demand, the rights to any and all forms of contraception (the alternative of abstinence is always ignored and never voiced), a total rejection of motherhood, and legal recognition of lesbianism. They are lovers of sexual promiscuity, call for the sexual liberation of all adolescents and even children. (According to Scott O’Hara, Steam’s HIV positive editor: “One of my primary goals is the maximization of pleasure, and just as I believe that gay men have more fun, so too, do I believe that Positives have much more fun than Negatives. I’m delighted to be Positive…The Negative world is defined by fear, ours by pleasure.”) Feminist radicals’ notion of constructive change for women is to demolish the traditional concept of the family, place sperm banks at the fingertips of lesbians and single women, and prohibit all forms of pro-life demonstration. Legalizing prostitution is high on their “destroy society” list, reasoning that by making prostitution a lawful act, they will be empowering female workers, giving their “trade” the dignity it deserves. Thus the women would attain the same benefits as other workers, including retirement benefits. Our feminist friends demand that governments achieve 50/50-male/female inclusion of elected appointed office (ignoring the fact that that would obviously be an impingement on our democratic right to elect whom we choose, regardless of sex). And how do they plan to accomplish this perverse agenda? By attacking the basic foundation of our society—the family!
At the United Nations, motherhood is either attacked with a vengeance, or intentionally overlooked. The radicals view everything involving marriage and motherhood as a lead ball and chain dragging the women of the world away from complete liberation. As full time mothers, this vast, committed group of women is sneered at, and their needs go unheeded. (So much for the feminists’ genuine concern for all women…) Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Supreme Court Justice, stated that “motherly love” was nothing more than a myth; a term coined by chauvinistic males with the intention of pacifying women and tricking them into thinking that their job as mothers was something indispensable.
And while it is easy to feel that this nightmarish agenda is far too radical to ever be implemented, their aims are already being put into daily use. In her book The Gender Agenda, Dale O'Leary tells us that the Feminist Agenda supports and promoted this very drastic form of population control: In Tibetan villages (and many other countries as well) women were told to report to the tent for abortions and sterilizations or they would be denied medical care. For the women who went to the tent peacefully they were given care, but those who did not wish to go were led there by force, had their children aborted, and any girl of child bearing age was sterilized. Because they had fought back, they were then denied medical attention. When the heartbroken Tibetan women were brought to New York asking for international intervention, they were unaware that they were being used by their feminist colleagues to promote the very treatment they had hoped to condemn. It was not until later that they learned that the term “reproductive rights”, which they had been told to use by the feminists, did not mean the right to have a child, but rather the right to have an abortion. Needless to say, the Tibetans were devastated. This appalling abuse of the language barrier is just one of the countless examples of the feminist agenda’s unscrupulousness, and its determination to thrust their policies upon the world, no matter the means or the consequences.
The feminist agenda aims at a worldwide, no-questions-asked enactment of their policies (what they call "mainstreaming the gender perspective") in every public and private institution possible. It is a fearsome attack, and a supreme effort needs to be summoned to meet it. We need to form ourselves and be aware of the anti-family, anti-true woman, anti-true love missiles launched our way. Yes, the odds are stacked against us. Funding is as tragically short for the pro-life cause as it is abundant for the other (In the year 2000, the combined income for radical organizations was $979,509,713, while the grand total for the pro-life cause was $26,804,643). Silent pro-life protesters at the UN are arrested, while rowdy, angry lesbian rallies are all but bowed down to. The utopian world of love, prosperity, and equality for all, will never be achieved by the demolition of the family, by killing the unborn, or by blurring the lines of what it means to be a man or a woman. In the words of Popes John Paul II and Paul VI, it is up to the pro-life, pro-love, pro-family cause to show the world how to build a society that is truly based on justice and love.
Dear Courtney, As I [at least attempted to say] said in an earlier post... 'The pen is mightier than the sword'. All of Emily's life I've tried to teach her the power of words. I don't know if she gets it or not. However, my heart beats stronger knowing that do get it. I am so deeply proud and honored to know you - I hear your voice singing like the angels. (roaring works for others)
I love you so much and I could never say this to your face because I would dissolve into tears. Love, Mrs. Smith
